Dr. Bob Abell
President
Dr. Abell was the key architect in the development and preparation,
within Learnsoft Corporation, of a series of computer-based training materials
for Newbridge Networks Corporation (now Alcatel), and subsequently for
commercial distribution. The materials, which are now maintained and distributed
by Automated Learning Corporation, have been used in over 200 electronics
and communications companies around the world.
Prior to his instructional design and management activities at Learnsoft,
Dr. Abell was involved in education and training projects with a number
of clients, including the Canadian Department of National Defense, Alberta
Advanced Education and Manpower, AGT (now Telus), Edmonton Telephones,
the Commonwealth of Learning, Alberta Education, Alberta Solicitor General,
Alberta Transportation, and the Edmonton Space Sciences Centre.
At Athabasca University he held positions as Instructional Designer,
Systems Analyst, Education Applications Specialist, and Director Computing
Services during the early formative years of the university. Prior to
his university service, he spent several years as a science instructor
at the high school level, both in Canada and Australia.
Over the years Dr. Abell has served on numerous committees, including
the ANSI/CSA X3L2.1 standards committee, the Alberta Chamber of Commerce
Economic Development subcommittee, and the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce
Advanced Technology subcommittee. He served on the executive of the Alberta
Association of Courseware producers and the Canadian Association of Courseware
producers.
Dr. Abell has a Ph.D. in education from the University of Alberta, a
B.Ed. from the University of New Brunswick, and a B.Sc. from Acadia University.
As a recognized expert in educational technology, distance learning, and
e-learning, his credentials include approximately 40 addresses and publications,
including invited presentations in Mexico, France, and the U.S.A.
Evelyn Abell
VP, Marketing
Evelyn specializes in human communications. With a background of classroom
experience teaching English, ESL, computing science, and business education,
she assumed a sales and marketing role inside Rovell Enterprises and then
Automated Learning. Concurrently, Evelyn has been extensively involved
in educational consulting and various aspects of multi-media course production,
including instructional design and editing, for a variety of audiences.
